The Choice of Books

Most parents are overprotective. They try to save their children from making the same mistakes they made. They want their children to be naive to all the foulness in the world. Even though they can't control their whole life, they begin by only letting their children read certain books. I partially agree with this.
Parents should let their children read the books assigned to them and pick some of their own. If, however, a parent feels strongly that the book their child is reading is far too explicit, then they should be able to choose another book for their child and/or discuss an exception for their child's reading material.
The opportunity to choose if your child is "ready" to read a certain book will do good. It will allow children some freedom to chose their own books, but at the same time reassure the parents that their child is not in any danger by reading the book.
